General Dentistry

At East Village Dental Centre, we take dentistry very seriously. While it is your job to maintain the health of your teeth, we take pride in providing services relating to the general maintenance of oral hygiene and tooth health. To ensure healthy teeth and a beautiful smile, we recommend you visit a dentist regularly (at least every six months). Unfortunately, some things can’t always be prevented and you may develop serious dental problems that may cause you pain and require treatment. Dr. Treinkman and his team of professionals will always be there to help, whatever the case may be.

Fillings

If you have a cavity or need to repair a cracked, broken, or worn down tooth, a filling may be necessary. In order to treat the problem, we will need to remove the decayed area of the tooth and fill it in. First, the area around the tooth will be numbed with a local anesthetic. Then, a drill, laser, or air abrasion instrument will be used. The type of tool will depend on the extent of the problem area, due to location and decay. Once the decay has been removed, the area will be cleaned of any bacteria or leftover debris. Next we may need to put a liner made of glass ionomer or composite resin to protect the nerve. Once it is safe, the filling is applied in multiple layers and will be made into the necessary shape. After each layer has been applied and then dried, the tooth is then polished.

Crowns

A dental crown is basically a tooth-shaped “cap” that is placed over a tooth. Crowns are necessary when a patient wants to restore a tooth’s shape, size, strength, and improve the overall appearance. These “caps” cover the entire portion of the tooth that is visible, right down to the gum line. There are many different types of crowns; ask your dentist at East Village Dental Centre what would work best for you.

Permanent Crowns

There are many different options for a permanent crown. Stainless steel or all metal crowns (such as gold) are great for out of sight molars. Porcelain crowns (that are fused to metal) can be matched to adjacent teeth’s color. Crowns made of all resin are less expensive, but can wear down over time. Ceramic crowns are mostly used for front teeth because they provide natural color, but they are not as strong as other crown options.

Temporary Crowns

These crowns can be made at the office, whereas permanent crowns are made in a lab. They can provide temporary restoration until a permanent crown is made for you.

Bridges

Dental bridges can restore your smile by “bridging” the gap created by one or more missing teeth. They are supported by your own teeth or with the help of dental implants. These bridges are made up of two or more crowns that are found on either side of the gap. Multiple visits are required for getting a dental bridge. A temporary bridge will be made in preparation for the permanent one that is being made. At East Village Dental Centre, we understand that each patient has a unique mouth and we want to ensure a proper fit that will work best for you.
