Discomfort After Crown Placed on Dental Implant

When you receive a dental crown on an implant, it is supposed to mark the end of your tooth troubles. However, it is not uncommon to experience some discomfort, particularly tooth sensitivity, after getting a dental crown. However, what exactly causes this sensitivity, and how can you manage it?

Reasons for Sensitivity After Dental Crown Treatment

Despite the success and reliability of dental crown treatments, some patients report temporary tooth sensitivity following the procedure. This discomfort is usually a fleeting issue, although it happens due to various reasons.

Temporary Tissue Inflammation

Often, the sensitivity you feel after getting a dental crown is due to temporary tissue inflammation. This is a natural response of the pulp tissues within your tooth, which might get irritated during the procedure. Typically, this kind of sensitivity eases off as the tissues heal.

Ill-Fitting Dental Crown

Sometimes, the issue lies in how the crown fits over your tooth. Even with precise measurements, a crown can occasionally sit a bit too high or not align perfectly. This mismatch can cause discomfort, especially when you chew or bite. If this is the case, a simple adjustment of the crown is usually enough to resolve the issue.

Nerve Damage

Persistent or worsening tooth sensitivity post-treatment can be a red flag for nerve damage. This can happen if the nerve tissue is irritated during the crown placement or if there is pre-existing damage or infection in the tooth.

How to Alleviate the Discomfort

Identifying the root cause of your tooth sensitivity is crucial for effective treatment. The approach to alleviating this discomfort varies, often involving options like taking anti-inflammatory drugs or even making adjustments to your crown. Regular dental check-ups and a consistent oral hygiene routine are vital in preventing and managing such issues. If you are experiencing discomfort after a crown placement or have any concerns about your oral health, do not hesitate to visit us for a thorough evaluation.
