Signs you need a root canal

Getting a root canal doesn’t have the be the daunting experience you associate with it. Our experienced dentist in Chicago will guide you throughout the entire process, making you feel at ease. If you have been experiencing long-term tooth problems, it may be a sign that you need a root canal.

What Is A Root Canal?

A root canal is a treatment to repair and save a badly damaged or infected tooth. The procedure involves removing the damaged area of the tooth, cleaning and disinfecting it and then finally filling in the tooth and sealing it.

Causes

Root canals are generally caused when you are experiencing major tooth decay, tooth infection, cracks or chips in your teeth, or trauma to your tooth. These issues will likely cause excessive pain that can only be treated by having a root canal.

Symptoms

The most common symptom that might indicate that you need a root canal is tooth pain. The intensity of the pain can range from mild to severe and may only worsen when you bite down on the tooth. Some patients also are extremely sensitive to hot foods or liquids. Another possible symptom is gum sensitivity near the problem area.

If you think that you need a root canal, consult with your dentist in Chicago. During your office visit, you can expect to receive x-rays and speak in depth with your dentist about treatment options. Only your dentist can tell you if you need a root canal, so if you are experiencing any of the mentioned symptoms, contact East Village Dental Centre to schedule an appointment.
