Dental Teeth Veneers

If you have imperfections in your teeth that are bothering you for aesthetic reasons, veneers can transform your smile into something you are looking for. There are multiple ways in which you can repair teeth such as tooth bonding, but veneers have been finding their way into more of people’s mouths over the years. At East Village Dental Centre we have worked with many patients who have chosen to receive veneers and walked away satisfied with their smile for years.

Teeth Veneers Can Transform Your Smile

Veneers are shells that go over your teeth and they can either be made from porcelain or composite resin. They exist purely for cosmetic reasons and are not an option for restoring the structure of a tooth - dental crowns will serve this purpose.

These shells are placed individually on each tooth to create a row of teeth that appear aesthetically pleasing. Each of these individual shells is carefully custom made for each tooth to give you the perfect fit and tooth size and so you can rest assured there won’t be any odd-looking changes to your teeth such as teeth that appear abnormally long.

Veneers can cover discolored and misshapen teeth as well as close gaps that have been bothering you for years. But are porcelain or composite resin veneers better?

Porcelain vs Composite Resin - Which One is Right For You?

For starters, there is a drastic price difference between porcelain and composite resin veneers. Porcelain veneers can cost at least $1000 per tooth while composite resin can cost as little as $250 per tooth. There are things to note on why the cost difference is so far apart, however.

Porcelain is much more resilient than composite resin, for one. It is an incredibly hard material that is stain-resistant, and the translucent nature allows it to mimic the appearance of real teeth with stunning accuracy. Porcelain veneers can last up to 20 years with excellent care.

Composite resin veneers are not as strong as porcelain and are susceptible to staining if you are consuming stain-heavy food and beverages frequently. Despite this, our patients have been satisfied with their resin veneers appearance-wise and many of them have been able to use them for years without issue. Your lifestyle will ultimately determine the longevity and the skill of the placement and shading will determine how well they look- this applies to both porcelain and resin veneers.

Which one is best for you will be based on how you plan to use your veneers and how much you can/are willing to spend? Composite resin veneers are great for most people as long as they are aware of potential staining with heavy coffee and red wine consumption. Porcelain is great for highly professional settings and for people who do not want to worry nearly as much about staining or damage. They will also look more realistic to natural teeth when placed side by side with resin.
