Emergency Visit Qualifications

Sometimes accidents happen. Those accidents could pertain to your teeth or oral health. We don’t always know when our teeth need immediate dental care. Our emergency dentist in Chicago is always here to help if you feel that you need to come in immediately. Here are some examples of what qualifies for an emergency visit.

You’ve got a loose tooth.

If you’re an adult and you have a loose tooth, this is not a good sign. If your teeth feel loose, it could indicate a tooth injury. This is painful and needs immediate attention. Additionally, a loose tooth can be a localized infection. Your dentist will be able to tell you what type of infection you have, so make an appointment immediately. If you seek treatment early on, it can prevent infection from spreading. It can also keep from your teeth having to be extracted.

Your tooth is chipped, fractured, or cracked.

Your teeth can be chipped, fractured, or cracked from multiple reasons. Even if some of these instances or minor, it’s possible that it can turn into a bigger problem if the damaged tooth is not addressed.

You have a severe toothache.

If you have a minor toothache, you may be able to find a few at-home treatment options. If your toothache is severe, you should see your dentist as soon as possible. A proper diagnosis is crucial for proper care. When your toothache pain increases, pain can linger. You can have sensitivity to temperature or touch.

Your gums are bleeding and aching.

It’s possible that your gums can bleed after your floss and brush. If it is not consistent, you are most likely okay and do not have to see a dentist right away. If your gums are excessively bleeding and it happens a lot, with pain following, you need to pay attention to this. This constant bleeding could be a sign of gum disease. If your gums are aching and swelling, it’s time to see your dentist. Your dentist will examine what’s going on. Luckily, if you catch gum disease in the early stages, you can keep your teeth healthy and intact. If you see your dentist at a later stage, your dentist may not be able to restore your teeth back to their healthy state.

This is by no means an exhaustive list of what constitutes as an emergency visit. As a patient, it’s your job to pay attention to what is going on in your mouth. If you notice significant changes or feel significant pain in or around your mouth, call your dentist. Don’t hold off if you think your visit should be an emergency one.
